Wisdom Teeth Surgery

The presence of wisdom teeth can cause secondary complications, so removing them when possible is the most recommended option.
But what are wisdom teeth?
They are the last teeth to develop and appear in the mouth, usually between the ages of 17 and 25, a period known as the "Age of Judgment".
Wisdom teeth are usually unable to break through the gums due to lack of space in the jawbones.
How is wisdom tooth extraction performed?
In general, wisdom tooth extraction is one of the simplest surgical procedures, especially when performed by a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The procedure is completely bearable and can be performed with the patient awake, without the need for sedation, using anxiety management techniques and behavioral therapy.
The initial cost of surgery varies depending on the degree of difficulty of the teeth, the patient's needs, and the risks involved. However, even with the possible risks, the long-term benefits always outweigh the complications.
Importance of Removal
Failure to remove wisdom teeth can damage neighboring teeth, cause pain, weaken the jawbone and, in more serious cases, lead to the development of cysts, tumors or infections of dental origin.
The area where these teeth are located is difficult to access for cleaning, creating a breeding ground for bacteria that can lead to periodontal disease. In addition, these bacteria can spread to other parts of the body through the bloodstream, causing systemic infections and affecting organs such as the heart, kidneys, and others.

Indications for Removal
Removal of wisdom teeth is indicated in cases of:
Development of infections or periodontal disease;
Irreparable cavities;
Formation of pathologies, such as cysts and tumors;
Damage to neighboring teeth;
Need for space for orthodontic treatment.
The sooner the better
Wisdom teeth are easier to remove when the patient is younger, as their roots are not yet fully formed and the surrounding bone is more flexible.
